Yesterday we were compressing things; today we have been pulling things apart. With most of the compression tests completed yesterday, we spent this morning shooting footage of tensile tests of reinforcing steel. Talk about textbook behaviour! The graphs output from the testing machine are a beautifully illustrate the behaviour you would expect from these materials.
With some filming time left, we filmed a concrete cube compression test. The high-speed footage shows a drop of pour water being squeezed out of the top surface of the cube and then rolling down the front surface. I am sure I would cry if I was under that load.
