Talking Workshed at Brighton University

I am delighted to have been given the chance to go to Brighton University at the beginning of December. I have been invited to give a lecture to 80 first year students who are studying basic structural engineering. Whilst these students have already studied some basic mechanics, they have yet to move on to studying concepts such as shear force and bending moments. The timing seems perfect therefore to introduce them to the simple Push Me Pull Me models on Workshed. My intention is to use these models to reinforce what they have learned already, and to use the models to see what intuitive sense they already have about structures work before they get into studying the detail in the next module.

I will be basing my lesson plan on the Push Me Pull Me worksheets that will soon be available from the Undergraduate Staffroom area of Workshed.
