News in from the University of Kent, Canterbury

On a snowy morning in January I took the train down to the University of Kent, Canterbury to help out in Ben Godber’s Structure and Form at the Architecture School. Following previous discussions about how Workshed could be used to help architects learn about structural behaviour, we ran an afternoon workshop with Ben’s students on how to use the Catastrophe platform to model different structural forms. (We also ran a competition to find the most creative Catastrophe structure the students could come up with)
Well it seems our workshop left its mark, with several of the students in his group using Catastrophe to verify their proposed designs in their course work. This is really great to hear as it shows that the tools on Workshed really have a much wide reach than the engineering audience that they were originally created for.
Fingers crossed I’ll get the chance to return to Canterbury to work with Ben and his students again next year.
